Commie Greatest Hits
The American Commie Creed: From now on, no one is permitted to say anything because it may offend someone, somewhere, at sometime. And we wouldn't want to take the unnecessary risk of offending anyone. (Exceptions: people who smoke, practice Judeo-Christian principles, or live in a trailer parks, you are free to vilify at will). All communication must be written down and approved by our censors before being delivered.
- 1. Manchurian Candidate The Frank Sinatra 1962 version. Fantastic suspense as a captured American is brainwashed by communists during the Korean War. Returning to the United States, he appears as a popular man of the people, but once elected plans to execute his true commie agenda. (Hey, is this a movie or is it really happening?)
- 2. The Red and The White A really different type of war movie depicting the abject incivility and breakdown of all human decency rampant during the Russian Civil War, circa 1920. Better off Red than Dead? You decide.
- 3. Dr. Strangelove Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964). This satire is probably the best tongue in cheek appraisal of the Cold War. B-52 pilot Slim Pickens riding the nuclear bomb like a bronco bull to take out the commie SAM site is worth the price alone.
- 4.The Big Lift Starring Montgomery Clift as a poor chump Air Force Sergeant who falls for a beautiful East German Commie playing him for a sap. A good insight into the Berlin Airlift.
- 5. Apocalypse Now One of my favorite movies of all time. Loosely based on the book "Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad, Capt. Willard is tasked by the US Army to ride up the Mekong River. His mission: to assassinate Green Beret Officer Col Kurtz. His crime, he was doing too good a job of killing commies.
- 6.The Third Man More of a cold war spy movie and film noir all rolled into one. The screen play is by Graham Greene who also wrote the Quiet American. It stars Orson Welles and Joseph Cotton, pretty good old school actors. The plot centers on spies as they shift between the free and soviet sector in Austria. I always like that Berlin Wall type stuff.
- 7. Full Metal Jacket Also set in Viet Nam, however this is Stanley Kubrick's rendition of the Tet Offensive, specifically the Hue massacre. The marine recruits are trying to stop the spread of communism in a war muddied by political ambition.
- 8. The Quiet American There are two versions 1958 and 2002. I actually liked the 2002 rendition better, staring Michael Caine and Brenden Fraiser over Audie Murphy and Michael Redgrave. The movie centers around communist plots in 1950's Indochina.
- 9. Dr. Zvago To be honest, I really didn't like the book or the movie that much, I thought it was kind of a chick flick. Even though I am anti commie I really like Russian authors such as Dosteyevsky and Tolstoy (War and Peace was actually worth the read). However, Dr. Zvago does give you an idea of what Russia was like when the Bolsheviks took over. And as I said, it would be a good date movie.
- 10. Atlas Shrugged This is a truly great book on communism told through a fictional story. Ayn Rand was an atheist and liked her boy toys from what I here, but she got a good taste of the Commie propaganda growing up in Russia. Even though she wrote the book in the 1950's, it's astounding how many of her predictions are coming true about the United States. There is also a movie out, but I haven't seen it yet.
- 11. KunDun OK, if you're looking for an action thriller, this isn't it- it's the story of the Dalai Lama's rise to prominence and exile from Tibet. Stunning scenes show the "benevolent" Chairman Mao promising a free Tibet and then embarking on a campaign of slaughter and pillage through Tibetan monasteries. Mao, a real class act.
- 12. Any of the earlier James Bond films starring Sean Connery of Roger Moore as "Agent 007". Two good ones to start with are To Russia with Love and The Spy Who Loved Me. The later films are OK but they are a little bit too "politically correct" for me. (i.e. "We can't show sexy leading ladies succumbing to the charms of suave and debonair secret agents can we? I mean, what Neanderthal would want to watch that!"). The amazing thing about James Bond movies is that they encapsulate everything the commies hate about Americans. We had all the money, drove the fastest cars, and got all the pretty girls. They can't stand that.
